Top 25 Poll - No. 7
The rest of the top eight also retained their positions from a week ago. No. 2 Concordia (Calif.) is now riding a 21-match winning streak after taking down No. 7 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and Hope International (Calif.) in its last two matches. The Eagles, who received 631 points, are followed by No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) (611 points), No. 4 Lee (Tenn.) (591 points) and No. 5 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) (557 points). The fourth-ranked Lady Flames notched the most significant win of the week in a 3-0 decision over Embry-Riddle in the NAIA Match of the Week on Oct. 14.
Vanguard (Calif.) made the biggest jump this week, moving up 10 spots to No. 11. The Lions defeated Fresno Pacific (Calif.) on Oct. 8 for the first time since 1993 and then followed it up with a four-set win over then-No. 12 Biola (Calif.) on Oct. 15. Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) enjoyed the next-largest leap in the poll, moving from 13th to ninth. The Warriors had a big week as they knocked off the other two ranked teams in the Frontier Conference. They posted a straight-set win over then-No. 9 Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Oct. 13 and a 3-1 triumph over No. 24 Carroll (Mont.) on Oct. 15.
New to the poll are No. 24 Grand View (Iowa) and No. 25 Saint Xavier (Ill.). The Vikings are ranked for the first time since the Sept. 13 Top-25 release after going 6-0 last week, including a 3-0 win over rival and Midwest Collegiate Conference favorite Viterbo (Wis.). The loss for the V-Hawks was the first of three-straight and pushed them out of the rankings. Indiana East, ranked 25th last week, also fell from the poll. Saint Xavier, which sits in first place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, makes a reappearance in the Top 25 after winning six matches in-a-row.
The Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) placed six members in the Top 25 for a fifth-straight week and again leads all leagues. The GSAC is represented by Concordia, Azusa Pacific, Fresno Pacific, Vanguard, No. 14 Biola and No. 17 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.). The Frontier Conference's three ranked squads are the second most. Four conferences garnered two Top-25 schools.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The next poll will be announced on Oct. 25.
