NAIA Volleyball Player of the Week ? No. 2

By Chad Waller, Director of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Daymari Brito of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) has been named the NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Brito was selected based on her performances from Sept. 9 - 15 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 23 conferences and independents.

Brito, a 6-foot sophomore outside hitter from Yaracui, Venezuela, averaged 5.56 kills per set, 1.78 digs per set and 0.78 services aces per set in a 2-0 week for the Lady Lions. In the 3-1 win (25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15) over visiting Stephens (Mo.) on Sept. 13, Brito compiled a match-high 25 kills and hit for a .478 clip. She added 10 digs and four blocks (one solo). Brito was instrumental in Freed-Hardeman's monumental 3-2 victory (26-24, 22-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-12) over then-No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) on Sept. 14. She finished with a match-best 25 kills and hit .309. Her fifth service ace in the deciding set was the winning point. Brito ranks second in the NAIA in kills per set (4.6).

The win over Columbia snapped the Cougar's 159-match American Midwest Conference regular-season win streak. That feat is an all-time NAIA record, breaking the 116 done by Houston Baptist.
