SIOUX CITY, Iowa -  [SCHEDULE | RESULTS | BRACKET] The second day of the 2021 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Tyson Events Center saw the final eight matches of pool play completed.

Pool Play Day 2 Highlights

  • One, five set matches
  • Four, four set matches
  • Three, three set matches
  • Three teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference remain in the tournament field.
  • Other conferences represented in the quarterfinals: American Midwest Conference, Crossroads League, Frontier Conference, Heart of America Athletic Conference and North Star Athletic Association.
  • Park (Mo.) is still in the hunt for its third title.
  • Two teams remain in the hunt for their second title: Marian (Ind.) and Missouri Baptist
  • Providence (Mont.), Concordia (Neb.), Jamestown (Neb.), Northwestern (Iowa), Bellevue (Neb.) are in the hunt for their first title.
  • Only two at-large teams remain: Bellevue (Neb.) and Northwestern (Iowa)
  • Six states are represented in the quarterfinals: Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska and North Dakota. Missouri and Nebraska are each represented by two teams.
  • This is the third year in a row that Jamestown (N.D.) advances to the quarterfinals
  • This is the second year in a row that Concordia (Neb.) advances to the quarterfinals
  • This is the seventh time that Missouri Baptist advances to the quarterfinals and the third consecutive year.
  • This is the fifth time that Park (Mo.) advances to the quarterfinals.
  • This is the first time that Providence (Mont.) advances out of pool play and to the quarterfinals.
  • This is the sixth time that Northwestern (Iowa) advances to the quarterfinals and third consecutive year.
  • This is the second time that Marian (Ind.) advanced to the quarterfinals. The last time the Knights advanced to the quarterfinals the team won its first title in 2019.
  • This is the second time that Bellevue (Neb.) advances to the quarterfinals. The last time the Bruins advanced to the quarterfinals was in their first tournament appearance in 2000.
  • None of the quarterfinal match-ups this year have happened in past quarterfinals.
  • Bellevue (Neb.), Concordia (Neb.), Providence (Mont.), Northwestern (Iowa) have never advanced past the quarterfinals before.

  • Only Pool G resulted in a tie break scenario with all three teams winning one match in pool play
    • The tournament committee determined each teams place in the pool by the tie break process approved by the National Administrative Council (NAC).
    • A tie break is one set played to 25 points
    • Midland (Neb.) and Montana Tech played in the first tie break set and Midland won 25-22
    • Midland (Neb.) advanced to play Marian (Ind.).

The first two days of the tournament will consist of pool play matches. Pools are made up of three teams each and the teams that have the best record in each pool or win on a tie break scenario advance to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals are the beginning of single elimination bracket play with the winners advancing to the semifinals and then the championship.
