By Chad Waller, Director of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Hannah Helker of Oklahoma Baptist has been named the NAIA National Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Helker, who is the first honoree of the 2012 season, was selected based on her performance from Sept. 3 - 9 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent runner of the week selections.

Helker, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., dominated the competition and helped lead the Lady Bison to a season-opening victory at the NCAA Division II Central Oklahoma Land Run on Sept. 8. Her top finish at 18:06 was more than 58 seconds better than the next competitor. She beat out 66 other runners on the 5K course. The field contained  athletes from NAIA and NCAA Division II schools.

Oklahoma Baptist won the event with 36 points in the seven-team field.
