Bellevue's Steinmetz Wins in Iowa, Named NAIA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Grace Steinmetz posted the NAIA's second sub-21 6K of the season and broke her own Bellevue (Neb.) school record last week in Sioux Center, Iowa, winning the Dordt Holiday Inn Express Classic to claim NAIA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for Oct. 15.
Steinmetz turned in the fastest time among 246 runners at the event, a field that included runners from the NAIA and two NCAA Divisions (I and II).
Her time of 20:40 is currently second behind Taylor (Ind.) runner Jaynie Halterman's 20:04, the second NAIA runner to crack 21:00 this season. Her 20:40 broke her own school record of 21:33 set two weeks ago, and she shattered the course record at Dordt by more than a minute. The previous record was 21:52.
Steinmetz and the Bruins have one more regular-season meet on the slate, Oct. 25 at the Blazing Tiger NAIA Classic at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Neb., followed by the Frontier Conference Championships Nov. 7 in Billings, Mont.
