KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Regena Jackson of Belhaven (Miss.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Jackson was selected based on her performances from Jan. 23 – 29 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings. The weekly honor marks the first of the season for Jackson.

Jackson helped lead the Blazers to a pair of Southern State Athletic Conference victories last week, knocking off Faulkner (Ala.), 82-65, and Spring Hill (Ala.), 75-54. The senior guard averaged 34.5 points, five rebounds, six assists and 3.5 steals per game, including a career-high 42-point effort in Belhaven’s win against the Lady Eagles. Additionally, she finished the week shooting 59.0 percent (23-of-39) from the field, 60.0 percent (6-of-10) from 3-point range and 94.4 percent (17-of-18) at the charity stripe.

A native of Denham, La., Jackson is the nation’s leading scorer, averaging 22.9 points per contest and accumulating 481 total points this season. She also ranks amongst the top 20 nationally in total assists (94), assists per game (4.5), total steals (58) and steals per game (2.8).
