KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nyla Bailey of Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Bailey was selected based on her performances from Jan. 30 – Feb. 5 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings. The weekly award marks the first of the season for Bailey and the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC).

Bailey averaged a team-leading 30.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to pace the Sea Lions in their victories at San Diego Christian (Calif.), 70-61, on Jan. 31 and against Fresno Pacific (Calif.), 60-56, on Feb. 4. She reached the 30-point mark in both contests, including a career-high 31 points on 10-of-24 shooting (41.7 percent) against the Sunbirds. Additionally, she posted 10 rebounds and three blocks. Against the Hawks, Bailey scored 30 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out three assists. Her two double-doubles this week extend her streak to four games and give her eight on the season. She ended the week shooting 51.1 percent (23-of-45) from the field and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) at the foul line.

A junior forward from Escondido, Calif., Bailey is averaging 24.2 points and 10 rebounds per game over her last five contests. She leads the team with 19.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game on the season. Nationally, Bailey ranks fourth in total scoring (470), sixth in points per game (19.6) and 19th in field goal percentage (50.0 percent).
