KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lynette Holmes of Langston (Okla.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Holmes was selected based on her performances from Feb. 10-16 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Holmes, a native of Chicago, Ill., carried Langston to three Red River Athletic Conference victories last week, extending the Lions winning streak to six games. The junior forward scored a season-high 50 points on 20-of-31 shooting as Langston downed No. 9 Our Lady of the Lake (Texas), 106-56, on Feb. 10. She also grabbed 10 rebounds in the contest for her fourth double-double of the season. In the Lions’ wins over Huston-Tillotson (Texas) on Feb. 12 and Southwest (N.M.) on Feb. 15, Holmes had nearly identical stat lines. Against Huston-Tillotson, she recorded 34 points on 12-of-22 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds and blocking three shots. Against Southwest, she scored 33 points on 13-of-22 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds and swiped six steals. For the week, Holmes shot .600 from the field (45-of-75) and 1.000 from the charity stripe (19-of-19), while averaging 39 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 blocks and 3.3 steals.

On the year, Holmes has scored at least 20 points in 19-of-23 games and leads the Lions in points per game (27.83), rebounds (151), blocks (22) and 3-point field goals made (45).
