2023 NAIA Women's Basketball Championship Round of 16 - Day 1
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - [SCHEDULE | BRACKET] Four teams have punched their ticket to the quarterfinal round of the 2023 NAIA Women's Basketball Championship after winning their game in the Round of 16 on Monday in the Tyson Events Center.
Clarke (Iowa) def. Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) 87-75
Clarke (Iowa) used the three-ball to take a 10-point lead after the first quarter of play. The Pride knocked down five of their eight attempts from downtown in the opening frame. The Pride used a 14-0 run in the third quarter to take control of the contest, and never relinquished the 20-point lead the rest of the quarter. Lewis-Clarke State (Idaho) cut the deficit to 11 with just over a minute to play, but Clarke continued to use their hot shooting to advance to the Quarterfinals of the 2023 NAIA Women’s Basketball Championship inside the Tyson Events Center.

Campbellsville (Ky.) def. Rio Grande (Ohio) 96-87
Campbellsville (Ky.) was off to a hot start with a 7-0 lead early, but Rio Grande (Ohio) battled back quickly as both teams traded buckets the remainder of the first quarter in a fast-paced up-and-down the-floor contest. Rio Grande took its first lead (23-21) in the early parts of the second quarter, and used a 6-0 run to open the frame. Rio Grande hit its three-pointer of the game for a spark that would open the largest lead of the game at 13 points in the second quarter. The Tigers battled their way back to within two-points at the half. The Tigers heated up from deep in the second half, shooting 54.4% from the floor on the game, which gave them the push for the win to advance to the Quarterfinal round of the 2023 NAIA Women’s Basketball Championship.

- Maddy Boyle of Campbellsville (Ky.) led all scorers with her 20 points in the contest.
- Courtney Pritchett of Campbellsville (Ky.) also added 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

- Six Tigers scored in double figures, including two off the bench.

Marian (Ind.) def. Westmont (Calif.) 68-57
It was the Knights of Marian University who jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead in the first six minutes in the second Round of 16 game of the day, the Knights led from start to finish inside the Tyson Events Center. Marian continued to hold the advantage in the third quarter, with a double-digit lead nearly the entire quarter. Westmont outscored the Knights in the final frame (15-14) but weren’t able to capture the lead.

Game Highlights
- Kinnidy Garrard of Marian (Ind.) led all scorers with her 20 points, also bringing down 10 rebounds for a double-double.
- Destiny Okonkwo of Westmont (Calif.) also recorded a double-double with her 14 rebounds and 10-point performance for the Warriors.
- It was balanced scoring for the Knights, as four of the five starters notched double digits; as only one other Knight recorded points.
- Marian advances to the Quarterfinal round for the second-straight season.
- The Knights outshot Westmont by nearly 20% on the game (Marian 49.1% | Westmont 33.9%).
Central Methodist (Mo.) def. Texas Wesleyan 74-68
Texas Wesleyan jumped out to the early lead before the Central Methodist (Mo.) Eagles went on a 7-0 run early in the first quarter. The Rams led by as many as four near the end of the opening quarter and the two teams traded baskets during the second quarter. Early in the second half, the Eagles opened up a double-digit lead using a 9-4 run in the first couple of minutes. Texas Wesleyan cut the CMU lead down to two points late in the fourth quarter, but a clutch three-pointer from Daryna Bachkarova sealed the deal for the Eagles.

Game Highlights
- Leianya Massenat of CMU led all scorers with 24 points, Daryna Bachkarova added 21 points.
- Zaria Carter of Texas Wesleyan recorded the only double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds).
- Three of the five Eagle starters recorded double digits to lead them into the Quarterfinals.
- CMU advances to the Quarterfinal round for the second-straight season.
