Poytner Earns Offensive Player of the Week While Leading Lancers to Historic Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Grace College's Maddy Poynter has been named the NAIA Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week, following a stellar performance. The sophomore guard from Lapel, Indiana, delivered back-to-back 34-point games, leading the Lancers to two impressive victories.
Poynter's week began with a record-breaking performance against Ohio Christian, where Grace (Ind.) set a new scoring benchmark with a 172-91 win. Poynter was instrumental in this historic game, contributing 34 points in just 22 minutes on the court. Her efficiency was notable, as she shot 50% from the field and was a perfect 17-for-17 from the free-throw line. Additionally, she distributed the ball effectively, racking up six assists.
Her performance didn't waver as the Lancers faced Cleary (Mich.). Poynter once again tallied 34 points, this time in a 114-95 victory. She improved her shooting accuracy, hitting 57.9% of her shots from the field, while also dishing out nine assists.
Overall, Poynter's shooting stats were impressive, with a 54.3% field goal percentage and an 85.3% free throw percentage across the two games. Her consistent scoring and ability to involve teammates were key factors in Grace's offensive success. Over the two games, she averaged 7.5 assists per game.
Defensively, Poynter contributed with three rebounds and one steal over the two games, while maintaining a commendable assist-to-turnover ratio of 5.0.
