Women's Basketball Coaches' Active Wins List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Head women’s basketball coaches Joanne Bracker of Midland (Neb.) and Robin Hagen-Smith of Shawnee State (Ohio) top the active NAIA wins lists entering the 2011-12 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Bracker’s 727 career wins is not only best among active Division II coaches, it is also the highest win total all-time for NAIA women’s basketball coaches. Hagen-Smith’s 590 victories are the most among active Division I coaches.

Bracker, who enters her 42nd season at Midland, has compiled an overall record of 727-382 as leader of the Warriors. Her .656 winning percentage is tied for the eighth-best mark on the active Division II list.

Hagen-Smith, with a record of 590-146 in 23 years at the helm for the Bears, ranks fifth on the all-time career wins list. Her .804 winning percentage is the best active mark and is fourth all-time. With 10 more wins, Hagen-Smith will join Bracker, Lonnie Kruse (664) of Sterling (Kan.), Donna Wise (660) of Campbellsville (Ky.) and Garey Smith (656) of Grand View (Iowa) as NAIA coaches with 600-or-more victories.

A total of five coaches began the season with more than 500 career wins, including Stephanie Findley (512) of Oklahoma Christian, and another seven have earned at least 400. Both Rio Grande’s (Ohio) David Smalley and Union’s (Tenn.) Mark Campbell needed just one more triumph at the close of the 2010-11 season to reach the 400-victory plateau. Smalley and Campbell have already eclipsed that mark with early-season wins.
