KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Laura Johnson of Bethel (Ind.) has been named the first NAIA National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week of the 2012-13 season, the national office announced Tuesday. Johnson was selected based on her performances from Dec. 31 - Jan. 6 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Johnson helped the 16th-ranked Pilots to a 3-0 week, which included wins over NAIA Division I Concordia (Calif.), Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) and then-No. 7 Saint Francis (Ind.). She filled the stat sheet with 32 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in Bethel's 76-74 win over Concordia on Dec. 31. Johnson followed that effort with 24 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 71-62 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene on Jan. 2. Capping the week off, Johnson scored 21 points, collected six rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded two steals in an 80-71 win over Saint Francis on Jan. 5.

The 5-foot-8 senior guard from Millbrook, Ill., averaged 25.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, three assists and three steals per game. Johnson connected on six 3-pointers in each of the three games; hitting 51.4 percent (18-35).

Johnson ranks in the top five in the NAIA in several categories. She ranks first with 62 3-pointers made, third with 3.6 3-pointers made per game, and fourth with 21.5 points per game.
