DII Women?s Basketball Player of the Week ? No. 6

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chakala Carthen of the College of Idaho has been named the NAIA National Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Carthen was selected based on her performance from Feb. 3 – 9 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Carthen, a Sparks, Nev., native, recorded her Cascade Collegiate Conference-leading 14th double-double in the Lady Yotes’ 67-64 victory against then-No. 17 Eastern Oregon on Feb. 7. The senior forward scored 19 points and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds in the effort. Carthen shot 64.3 percent (9-for-14) from the field in the contest, while also tallying three steals.

On the season, Carthen leads the NAIA in offensive rebounds per game (4.8), while also ranking 10th in total rebounds per game (10.4) and 21st in field goal percentage (53.8 percent).
