KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kylar Fritz is the PrestoSports NAIA Football Defensive Player of the Week after a big fourth quarter for Northwestern (Iowa), Saturday, collecting a pair of Mount Marty (S.D.) turnovers to preserve a 35-33 win for the now 13th-ranked Red Raiders in Orange City.
Fritz opened the quarter with a fumble recovery and sealed the game as the Lancers were driving, halting one of the NAIA’s top passing attacks with an interception in the end zone, part of a six-tackle day for the senior from Sioux Center, Iowa.
He added two pass breakups to his INT and recovered fumble, as Northwestern improved to 2-1 and 2-0 in the GPAC.
Fritz is the second honoree in as many weeks, for Northwestern, after quarterback Colby Duncan picked up offensive recognition last week.
The schedule doesn’t let up on the Raiders, as they host Midland (Neb.), Saturday at 6 p.m. The Warriors received votes in this week’s Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
