KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Joshua Ferguson is the PrestoSports NAIA Football Defensive Player of the Week after leading McPherson (Kan.) to a 40-14 win over Evangel (Mo.) in a Top 25 matchup Saturday, helping the Bulldogs climb into the top 15 in this week’s coaches’ poll.
Ferguson was a constant presence in the Evangel backfield, recording 3.5 tackles for loss for 12 yards, including 2.5 sacks for 10 yards. The junior defensive lineman from Kensington, Kan., finished with seven total tackles, including four solo stops.
Behind Ferguson’s performance, McPherson limited Evangel to 86 rushing yards on 35 attempts, an average of just 2.5 yards per carry. The Bulldogs kept the Valor out of the end zone on the ground while picking up their third win of the season.
No. 15 McPherson hits the road this week, traveling to Ottawa (Kan.) Saturday for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff.
