Dalton State’s McFadden Wins Weather-Shortened Music City Collegiate, Earning Men’s Golfer of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Ben McFadden led Dalton State (Ga.) to a five-stroke win at the weather-shortened Music City Collegiate, Oct. 6-7 at Greystone Golf Course in Tennessee, winning the event to collect NAIA Men’s Golfer of the Week honors for Oct. 15.
McFadden turned in a clean scorecard in the opening round, shooting 7-under 65, closing his final 10 holes with five birdies after carding an eagle on his second hole, the 535-yard, par-5 second.
He went 26 holes in the tournament without a bogey, his first coming on his 27th hole of the event and his ninth hole of the second round, but a pair of front-nine birdies, followed by three on the back nine kept McFadden 4-under for the day, 68, and 11-under for the event, 133.
McFadden was one of three Roadrunners under par for the event, as Dalton State captured a hard-fought five-stroke victory over defending national champion Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
The Roadrunners are back in action Oct. 18-19, at The Links at Kahite, in Venore, Tenn., for the Bojangles Tennessee Intercollegiate.
NAIA Women’s Golfers of the Week are named weekly, on Wednesdays at NAIA.org, and the final fall award is scheduled for next week, on Oct. 22. The award breaks for the winter and returns March 4, weekly, through April 22.
