Missouri Valley's Joaquin Raminger won by nine at home last week to pick up the Sept. 23 NAIA Men's Golfer of the Week honor.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Valley University sophomore Joaquin Raminger put three rounds in the 60s and won by nine strokes at the Vikings’ home event Sept. 14-15, turning 54 holes in 16-under par into the Sept. 23 edition of NAIA Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Raminger had one blemish on his first-round card, a double bogey that was surrounded by five birdies. He shot 33 on the front nine and was 3-under par through 10 holes, adding birdies at No. 13 and on the final hole in the first round to shoot 69. He backed that round up with a 7-under par 65, atoning for his first-round double at the 11th with an eagle, and another birdie at No. 13 had Raminger 7-under through 13 holes. He bogeyed the 14th but erased it with a birdie at No. 17 to extend his lead.
He was 10-under par through the tournament’s first day at Marshall’s Indian Foothills Golf Course.
Tuesday, he made an early bogey at No. 2 but four front-nine birdies turned the Buenos Aires, Argentina native in 33, and he collected another eagle at No. 11 after a birdie at No. 10. A birdie at No. 14 had Raminger 7-under on the day through 14 and 17-under for the event.
Raminger led the Vikings to a 22-stroke win over conference rival William Penn (Iowa) and Mid-Missouri neighbor Columbia (Mo.), and individually, as individual medalist, he finished one off a new tournament record.
Missouri Valley’s was also in action this week at Central Methodist, and next week, the season resumes as the Vikings stay close to home for a third event, in Fulton, Mo., at Tanglewood Golf Course, hosted by William Woods.
