KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Felipe Suarez led Missouri Valley to a school record 50-under par at last week’s MVC Fall Invitational, and Sept. 17, he was named NAIA Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Suarez, a freshman from Cordoba, Argentina, won the event by three strokes in a field that included 93 golfers, beginning the event on fire with a first-round, 7-under 65.

He backed his opening round up with a 4-under par 68, and closed the tournament with a 6-under par 66, 17-under for the three-day tournament, edging senior teammate Chad Coburn by three shots.

Missouri Valley claimed the event by 42 strokes, beating Heart of America Athletic Conference rival William Woods (Mo.) by opening a 17-stroke lead on the Owls through 18 holes, and the Vikings extended their lead to 27 strokes after the second. Missouri Valley cemented the win with a third-round 274, finishing 266-274-274 over 54 holes.

The Vikings are back in action Sept. 29-30, at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo., taking part in the William Woods Fall Invitational. NAIA Men’s Golfers of the Week are named weekly, on Wednesdays at NAIA.org, through Oct. 22. The award breaks for the winter and returns March 4, weekly, through April 22.
