KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Montana Tech senior Morgan McClernan has been named the Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after a weekend that powered the Orediggers to the Frontier Conference team title.

Competing at the Frontier Conference Outdoor Championships on May 2–3, McClernan was the meet’s most impactful athlete, accounting for 41 team points while delivering wins, podium finishes, and key relay legs that ultimately swung the team race in Montana Tech’s favor. A Butte native, McClernan turned his home-track opportunity into a statement performance, earning Track Athlete of the Meet honors as the Orediggers completed their title run.

McClernan’s weekend was highlighted by a dominant sweep of the 110-meter hurdles. He opened the meet by winning the preliminary round in 14.04 seconds, then came back in the finals to take first again in 13.97. Both races set new Montana Tech program records, and both marks met the NAIA “A” standard.

He added major points in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing runner-up in 53.07 to secure a NAIA “B” standard, and also placed fourth in a deep 400-meter dash field with a time of 49.75.

McClernan’s influence extended beyond his individual races. He ran the third leg on the Frontier champion 4×100-meter relay and anchored the 4×400-meter relay that finished second. That closing relay performance capped the meet’s decisive swing, completing the comeback that clinched the conference championship for Montana Tech.

This is the final athlete of the week award of the season.
