KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Goalkeeper Andre Ferreira of Faulkner (Ala.) has been named the PrestoSports NAIA Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after recording six saves in a 2-0 road win over No. 3 Cumberland (Tenn.).
Ferreira posted a clean sheet against the Phoenix, who entered the match unbeaten, to help the Eagles secure one of their biggest wins of the season. His most notable save came in the 57th minute when a Cumberland counterattack drew Ferreira out of the penalty area. As a Phoenix attacker attempted to shoot around him, Ferreira dove and headed the ball away to keep the match scoreless.
Faulkner scored the eventual game-winner just two minutes later, giving Ferreira and the Eagles the defensive effort needed to secure the victory. He finished the match with a 1.000 save percentage and did not allow a goal in 90 minutes.
The triumph extended Faulkner’s winning streak to 10 matches, improving its overall record to 15-2 and its record against top-five opponents to 3-0 this season.
Faulkner opens postseason play Thursday, Oct. 29, against Thomas (Ga.) in the first round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament.
