Men’s Soccer Notebook; Checking in on the Preseason Top Five, Contests to Watch

The Preseason Top Five Check-in

Grand View (Iowa)

The Vikings sit at 0-1-1 following their first two matches of the season. They fell to RV Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in a 1-0 decision, before battling to a 0-0 draw against Morningside (Iowa). They return to the pitch on Sept. 5 against Cumberland (Tenn.) in the Fong’s Pizza Classic in Des Moines, Iowa.

West Virginia Tech

WVU Tech men’s soccer opened the 2026 season with a top-five matchup Sunday afternoon, battling No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) to a 1-1 decision at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex. Up next, they hit the road for the first time this season Friday, Aug. 28, when the Golden Bears face Milligan (Tenn.).

MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.)

The Pioneers have yet to hit the pitch this season, with their first contest on deck for Thursday at 5 p.m. at home against Ottawa (Kan.). They round out the weekend with a contest against Bellevue (Neb.) on Saturday.

Cumberlands (Ky.)

The Cumberlands (Ky.) men’s soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 1-1 draw against No. 2 WVU Tech (W.Va.) Sunday afternoon at Paul Cline Stadium. The Patriots return to the field on Thursday as they face No. 22 Grace (Ind.) in Rio Grande, Ohio. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

Georgia Gwinnett

The No. 5-ranked Grizzlies (1-0-0) scored a 5-1 season-opening triumph at SCAD Savannah (Ga.) last Friday.

Georgia Gwinnett travels to another in-state destination when it faces Northwestern Ohio at the Dalton Classic on Thursday in Dalton, Georgia.


Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The NAIA men’s soccer season has returned, with all 188 teams vying for the opportunity to compete on the national stage in Orange Beach, Ala., starting in late November.

Grand View (Iowa) leads the way in the preseason coaches’ poll, a reflection of the conclusion to last year’s season, where the Vikings took home the championship title. West Virginia Tech, a team from last season’s title game, was tabbed second, while MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), Cumberlands (Ky.), and Georgia Gwinnett round out the top five.
