Freshman Martina Ligabue Earns Setter of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Baptist’s Martina Ligabue has been named the PrestoSports NAIA Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week after a remarkable performance against some of the nation’s top competition. The freshman setter guided the Spartans to four victories over nationally ranked opponents, totaling 246 assists while showcasing the composure and playmaking ability that have quickly made her one of the NAIA’s premier setters.

The native of Vicenza, Italy, played a pivotal role in Missouri Baptist’s success against a loaded schedule, guiding the Spartans to victories over four nationally ranked opponents: No. 20 Midland (Neb.), No. 25 Viterbo (Wis.), No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan, and No. 14 St. Thomas (Fla.). Ligabue consistently directed a high-powered offense while contributing across multiple statistical categories.

Over five matches and 21 sets, Ligabue compiled 246 assists, averaging 11.71 assists per set alongside 64 digs, eight service aces, and six blocks.

Ligabue opened the week with a standout performance in a five-set win over No. 20 Midland, recording 47 assists, 22 digs, and five service aces. She followed with 45 assists against No. 25 Viterbo before posting 54 assists in a four-set victory over No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Her top performance came in a thrilling five-set win over No. 14 St. Thomas, where she delivered a career-high 60 assists. The freshman setter added 11 digs and two blocks in the victory, helping the Spartans secure another marquee win.

Even in Missouri Baptist’s lone loss of the week, Ligabue continued to impress, tallying 40 assists against No. 1 Northwestern in just three sets. Her ability to generate offensive production against one of the nation’s top programs further highlighted her impact and poise.

Throughout the week, Ligabue directed an offense that consistently performed at a high level against nationally ranked competition.
