Lilly Phillips of Life (Ga.) Was an Issue for Opponents Causing Turnovers, Then Cleaning up the Turf to Earn Defensive Player of the Week Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lilly Phillips of the Life (Ga.) Running Eagles caused problems for the Tigers of Georgetown (Ky.) and the Bobcats of St. Thomas (Fla.) last week, earning national defensive player of the week honors.
The senior from Johns Creek, Ga., took the field as a defender last week instead of her usual position between the sticks. Phillips opened the week as a do-it-all kind of player for the Running Eagles, scoring four goals with a pair of assists. She added six ground ball pickups, five caused turnovers, and sent 5-of-6 shots on frame.
Three days later, she flipped her goals and assists, scoring two and assisting on four, while still cleaning the turf with five ground ball pick-ups and causing three turnovers.
The senior was locked in on the task at hand, posting 12 total points on six goals and six assists while securing 11 ground balls, causing eight turnovers and sending 9-of-11 shots on the cage.
Phillips and the Running Eagles are back in action on April 16 and April 18 when they travel to the Sunshine State for games against Ave Maria (Fla.) and New College of Florida. The games are slated for the opening draw at 4 p.m. on their respective days.
