KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lola Martinez Benitez of Missouri Valley went back-to-back with two season highs in saves, one of which included a shutout victory over No. 18 as the Madrid, Spain native picks up PrestoSports-NAIA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The senior goal keeper for the Vikings protected the valley in a 1-0 shutout win against No. 18 Benedictine (Kan.) last week. She was call upon seven times as MVU was outshot 14-9 and 7-1 in shots on frame. Martinez Benitez climbed to 2-3-2 on the season with the shutout victory.
Four days later, she continued to play with confidence against St. Ambrose (Iowa). She was called upon seven different times once again in the 1-1 draw, as she sits at 2-3-3 on the season.
Martinez Benitez and the rest of the Vikings step back onto the pitch tomorrow at Culver-Stockton (Mo.) before heading north for a duel against Graceland (Iowa) on October 3.
