KANSAS CITY, Mo. – IU Kokomo (Ind.) junior outside hitter Mya Grigsby has been named the PrestoSports NAIA Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week after a remarkable four-match stretch that saw her lead the Cougars to a 3-1 record while posting some of the nation’s most impressive offensive numbers.
Grigsby had an impactful weekend, averaging 5.79 kills per set while hitting .341 and adding 3.79 digs per set. The Greenfield, Indiana native totaled 81 kills, 53 digs, nine blocks, five service aces and 90.5 points across 14 sets, recorded three double-doubles and reached a major career milestone along the way.
During the tournament, Grigsby surpassed 1,000 career kills, becoming the fastest player in IU Kokomo program history to achieve the feat.
She opened the weekend with 15 kills, 13 digs, and two service aces against Grace (Ind.) before exploding for 22 kills, 16 digs, and four blocks in a victory over St. Ambrose (Iowa). Grigsby continued her impressive run on the second day with 19 kills and 13 digs while hitting .581 in a sweep of Grand View (Iowa).
The junior saved her best performance for last against tournament host Indiana Tech. In the three-set victory, Grigsby hammered down 25 kills, averaging 8.33 kills per set, while adding 11 digs and hitting .455. The performance capped a weekend in which she tallied at least 15 kills in every match and reached 19 or more kills three times.
Beyond her offensive production, Grigsby also contributed defensively and from the service line. She finished the weekend with 53 digs, nine total blocks and five aces while helping IU Kokomo secure victories in three of its four matches.
