KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Cornerstone (Mich.) junior setter Payton Hutchinson has been named the PrestoSports NAIA Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week after leading the Golden Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record, highlighted by a signature sweep of No. 15 Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).
Hutchinson orchestrated the Cornerstone offense, totaling 148 assists over 13 sets while averaging 11.38 assists per set. Her steady distribution helped power the Golden Eagles to victories over Madonna (Mich.), Mount Vernon Nazarene, Cumberland (Tenn.), and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.).
The junior’s biggest performance came in Cornerstone’s upset victory over No. 15 Mount Vernon Nazarene, where she recorded 42 assists in a straight-set sweep while averaging an impressive 14.0 assists per set.
Hutchinson consistently guided the Golden Eagles attack throughout the week, posting 32 assists against Madonna, 41 assists against Cumberland and 33 assists against Olivet Nazarene. She reached at least 32 assists in every match despite Cornerstone playing three contests that lasted just three sets.
In addition to her playmaking abilities, Hutchinson finished the week with 27 digs, six service aces and five total blocks, while also contributing four kills. Her all-around efforts helped Cornerstone maintain momentum during an unbeaten stretch against a challenging slate of opponents.
From the service line, Hutchinson recorded at least one ace in every match, including a three-ace performance in the victory over Madonna. Defensively, she registered seven digs in three separate matches and contributed a block in every contest.
