Concordia (Neb.) Receiver Van Cleave's Double-Duty Saturday Leads to Offensive Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Concordia (Neb.) wide receiver Adam Van Cleave hadn't played running back in a collegiate game until Saturday, earning a backfield start that led to 110 rushing yards and another 145 receiving, earning NAIA Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 20.
Van Cleave scored three touchdowns on the day, one on the ground and two through the air, as his 255 all-purpose yards came on 30 rushing attempts and 13 receptions in the Bulldogs' 32-29 win over Hastings (Neb.).
He's the first Concordia player to eclipse 100 yards rushing and receiving since the 2015 season, and one of his two touchdown catches was the game-winner, a 26-yard pass from Gideon Stark with 32 seconds remaining in the game.
Van Cleave's day started with a five-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter from Stark, and three minutes into the third quarter, he capped an eight-play, 65-yard scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
No. 23 Concordia travels to No. 11 Morningside (Iowa) this week, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. CT, a game that will air on Urban Edge Network as part of the NAIA-UEN Featured Series.
NAIA Football Players of the Week are announced Monday afternoons at NAIA.org.
