The membership has authorized the National Administrative Council to initiate operational policies for conference/Continental Athletic Conference and national competition, national statistical services, national awards and event management.
The Council consists of 41-44 members: one representative from each conference; President and Vice President from the NAIA Athletics Directors Association; Chair and Vice-Chair from the Conference Commissioners Association; three members of NAIA-SIDA; three members of NAIA-SWLA; President of the Athletic Trainers Association; and at-large members as needed to ensure broad representation.

The NAIA National Administrative Council (NAC) meets four times annually (August, January, April and June). The NAC Executive Committee meets during the months the full council does not convene.
