Two picks were the highlight of Isaiah Hasten's day in Benedictine's 34-32 win over Baker.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Benedictine (Kan.) junior safety Isaiah Hasten is the PrestoSports NAIA Football Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 5, marking the second Raven to earn national recognition after Anthony Lonergan picked up the Special Teams award on Sept. 21.
Hasten made five tackles in the game and a pair of receptions on offense, but a pair of interceptions were the story of the day for the junior from San Diego, Calif., in a two-point win over nationally ranked rival Baker (Kan.).
His first pick marked the first score in the game, as Baker was driving. Hasten intercepted a pass at the Benedictine 9-yard line and took it 91 yards the other way with 9:51 in the first quarter to put BC in front 7-0.
Hasten’s second interception came moments after the defensive unit recorded what would ultimately be a game-deciding safety with two minutes left in the game. With Baker driving inside a minute, Hasten stepped in front of another Wildcat pass at midfield, a second pick that sealed a 34-32 win.
Now 5-1 and 1-0 in the Heart South, the Ravens resume divisional play Saturday at Central Methodist (Mo.), at 6 p.m.
