KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Davontaye Saunders carried 14 times for 299 yards Saturday against Cumberland (Tenn.), breaking the Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) single-game rushing record and in the process became the Blue Raiders’ single-season record holder for rushing yards, earning NAIA Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 10.

Saunders scored three touchdowns on runs of 73, 69, and 45 yards, scoring on Lindsey’s first two offensive plays in the first quarter. His third TD added cushion to a five-point lead, with 3:43 in the third quarter, giving the Blue Raiders a 42-30 lead.

On the year, Saunders has 17 rushing touchdowns, second-most in Lindsey Wilson football history, a total that currently sits fifth in the NAIA. His 1,410 rushing yards are second among NAIA totals, while his rushing average, 156.7 yards per game, leads the NAIA.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action Saturday at Bethel (Tenn.), after moving up to No. 8 in this week’s Coaches’ Poll.
