Tabor Teel Opens Season as First Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Tabor Teel, a senior forward from Dakota State (S.D.), has been named the first NAIA Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week this season. Teel, hailing from Colton, South Dakota, has not only showcased her offensive skills but was a cornerstone in the defensive lineup for the No. 4 Dakota State Trojans.
Over the past week, the Trojans have maintained an impressive 3-0 record, with Teel playing a pivotal role in each victory. Her defensive stats speak volumes: she averaged 9.0 defensive rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game.
In the season opener against Minnesota-Morris, Teel recorded four blocks, helping the Trojans secure a commanding 76-40 win. She outdid herself in the game against Bethel (Kan.), where she snagged five steals, contributing to a decisive 100-75 victory.
Teel’s performance was not limited to defense alone. She recorded a double-double in two of the three contest with 17 points and 12 rebounds (3 offensive, 9 defensive) against Minnesota-Morris and 20 points and 14 rebounds (3 offensive, 11 defensive) against Bethel (Kan.). Her shooting accuracy was remarkable: she shot 60.9% from the field, demonstrating her efficiency and skill on offense. In the matchup against Kansas Wesleyan, Teel was particularly impressive, scoring 27 points with a 61.9% field goal percentage.
Teel’s all-around performance has been instrumental in Dakota State’s early-season success. Her ability to control the paint, disrupt opposing offenses, and contribute significantly to her team’s scoring has made her a standout player.
