Atwood Etches Name in Concordia (Neb.) Record Book, Earning Special Teams Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Peyton Atwood was 4-for-4 on field goals and added a pair of point-after attempts, a pivotal 14 points in a 32-29 Concordia (Neb.) win over Hastings (Neb.), earning NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week for Oct. 20.
Atwood’s two PATs made him the all-time leader at Concordia for made point-after attempts (109), adding his name to a record book he’s already in, as the single-season PATs leader and the owner of the longest field goal in Bulldog history at 50 yards.
He didn’t need a 50-yarder Saturday, but his makes of 34, 38, 20, and 37 were a critical component in the Bulldogs’ come-from-behind win.
Atwood’s first field goal closed the first quarter and gave the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead, and he hit another with 7:04 left in the second to make it 13-0. He ended back-to-back third-quarter drives with makes that had Concordia in front by 12 at the close of the quarter.
No. 23 Concordia travels to No. 11 Morningside (Iowa) this week, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. CT, a game that will air on Urban Edge Network as part of the NAIA-UEN Featured Series.
NAIA Football Players of the Week are announced Monday afternoons at NAIA.org.
