KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southeastern (Fla.) sophomore Abbey Peterson is the first NAIA Women’s Golfer of the Week of the 2026 season after her first individual collegiate title at last week’s Coastal Georgia Invitational.

A Winona Lake, Ind., native, Peterson tied an SEU record for single-tournament low score, finishing 1-over par in the first event of the season for the Fire, who also won the event as a team by a program-best seven strokes.

Peterson opened the 54-hole event with a steady even-par round, opening the tournament with a bogey but balancing it quickly with a birdie five holes in. She tacked on another birdie five holes later and finished with a first-round 72. She followed with a five-birdie round and shot 75 over the second 18 holes, but the third round at Jekyll Island Golf Club was where she made her mark on the tournament.

In the final round, Peterson reclaimed two shots out of the gate, making birdies at No. 1 and No. 2, and she shot 32 on the front nine after a birdie on No. 9. She went on to shoot a 2-under par 70, posting a 54-hole total of 217 (72-75-70).

Southeastern is one event into the 2026-27 season, which resumes on the final weekend of the month at the Innisbrook Invite, hosted by Dalton State (Ga.), at Innisbrook RGC in Palm Harbor, Fla.
