IU East’s Bickel Records 75 Digs in Pair of Matches, Earning NAIA Defensive Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – IU East (Ind.) senior Ella Bickel had 75 digs in two matches for the Red Wolves, including a school-record 50 in a five-set win on Friday over IU Columbus (Ind.).

Bickel, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., averaged 9.38 digs per set, last week, adding a kill in the win over IU Columbus. Her school-record 50 digs helped the Red Wolves to a 24-26, 25-23, 20-25, 27-25, 19-17 thriller, their 13th win of the 2025 season. 

A day later, against IU Southeast (Ind.), Bickel added 25 digs to keep her average above nine for the week. 

IU East has two matches slated for this week, at Oakland City (Ind.) Friday, followed by a Saturday afternoon trip to Brescia (Ky.).
